I'm still troubleshooting by trying to import a variety of sample .ged files from different vendors. For example, today I uploaded the .ged I've been using to ancestry.com and then exported the tree from ancestry to my computer, and spent hours fixing my code based on mistakes I hadn't found before.
These modules were changed:
gedcom_import.py:
Fixed `make_missing_birth_events()` -- parents and children were not showing in the GUI.
Deleted the `id_shift`. This is an advanced feature (importing GEDCOM into a non-empty tree) which should not be tried till troubleshooting is done on the basics.
Changed the import strategy to overwrite default person #1 in UNIGEDS wirth the #1 person in the GEDCOM if any INDI has that number.
gedcom_constants.py:
Added some queries.
families.py:
Some missing default values were added in `get_parents_data()`.
